Grafts are taken from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, where follicles are genetically resistant to DHT — the hormone responsible for pattern baldness. Once transplanted, these follicles keep that resistance, so transplanted hair is permanent. Your existing non-transplanted hair can still thin over time, which is why we usually pair surgery with medical treatment.

The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so you stay awake and comfortable throughout. Most patients watch a film or listen to music during the session. Mild soreness or tightness for two to three days afterwards is normal and is managed with simple medication.

It depends on your grade of baldness, donor density and the coverage you want. As a rough guide: a hairline and frontal zone typically needs 1,500–2,500 grafts, frontal plus mid-scalp 2,500–3,500, and advanced baldness 3,500–5,000 or more, sometimes across two sessions. We give you an exact number after a trichoscopy assessment.

Most people return to desk work in three to five days. Scabs fall off within 8–12 days, and you can resume gym and sport after about three weeks. The donor area heals within a week or two with no visible linear scar in FUE.

Transplanted hair sheds in the first two to four weeks — this is expected and temporary. New growth starts around month three to four, becomes clearly visible by month six to eight, and the final result matures at twelve to fifteen months.

Good candidates have stable hair loss, adequate donor density and realistic expectations. Patients under 25 with rapidly progressing loss, or anyone with an uncontrolled medical condition, may be advised to stabilise with medical treatment first. We will tell you honestly if surgery is not right for you yet.

Yes. Women with stable pattern thinning, a receding hairline or traction alopecia can be excellent candidates. Female hair loss more often has a medical cause, so we investigate thyroid function, iron, vitamin D and hormonal factors before recommending surgery.
